Spicemas is Grenada's carnival and the island's biggest celebration, held every August. It blends traditional masquerade with modern soca, and it's known above all for Jab Jab J'ouvert, when revelers covered in oil, paint and mud take over the streets before dawn, often called the purest J'ouvert in the Caribbean.

The name honors the Spice Isle's nutmeg, cocoa and cinnamon, and the festival is as much about Grenadian history and creativity as it is about the party. Over the season you'll find the Soca Monarch Finals, boat rides, all-inclusive fetes, Monday Night Mas with its lights and glow, and the Parade of the Bands through St. George's.

This trip covers Carnival week, from Preeday on arrival night to two days on the road. Along the way you'll tour the island, from Grand Etang Lake in the rainforest to a rum distillery, a chocolate maker and a waterfall swim, and take to the water at Soca Raff Up and Rum Boat.

Fete tickets, costume coordination and pickup, individual costume photography, group transport and airport transfers are arranged for you, and daily breakfast is included.

Why This Journey

Spicemas feels rooted in the island: Jab Jab is a living tradition with its own history, and the fetes, rum and chocolate all carry a taste of Grenada. This trip gives you both sides, the road and the rainforest, so you leave having seen why it's called the Spice Isle.

Traveling with a small Soca Islands group means tickets, costume pickup and early-morning transport are handled, and you have a crew from the first night. It suits carnival regulars who want to experience J'ouvert at its rawest, first-timers who want an authentic introduction, and anyone who likes their soca with some adventure.

Tonight the week starts at the first event on the itinerary, Preeday.

Overnight in Grand Anse

A day to explore the island. Begin at Grand Etang Lake, a crater lake high in the rainforest, then tour a rum distillery to learn how Grenadian rum is made, with samples along the way. Next, discover how Grenada's chocolate is made from bean to bar.

To finish, cool off with a swim in a natural pool at the foot of a waterfall. The rest of the day is free.

Meals: Breakfast Overnight in Grand Anse

Take to the water for Soca Raff Up, a cooler boat cruise where you bring your own drinks and dance to soca as you sail along the coast.

In the evening, the group goes to the Soca Monarch Finals, one of the biggest nights of the season, where the island's top soca artists compete on one stage.

Meals: Breakfast Overnight in Grand Anse

The morning is free for the beach or a slow start. In the afternoon it's Shhhhh, a premium food and drink inclusive fete that is anything but quiet.

The big day starts before dawn with Jab Jab J'ouvert. Covered in paint, oil or mud, you'll dance through the streets to soca as the sun comes up.
