Seven days, one small country and a lot of ground covered. You start and finish in Amman, where the ancient Citadel looks down on a modern city of cafés and souks, and in between the route drops to the shores of the Dead Sea, then heads south through the water-carved canyon of Wadi Mujib to Petra.
Petra gets a full day, with a guided introduction, time to roam alone and a return after dark for its light and music show. Then comes Wadi Rum: a jeep ride through the desert, sunset at camp and a sky crowded with stars.
Along the way you'll cook Arabic home dishes with a local, float in the saltiest water on earth and share four group dinners, starting with a mezze welcome in Amman.
Expect early starts and plenty of movement in a group of 6 to 16 travelers; the payoff is a country seen from many angles in very little time.
Why This Journey
Jordan packs Roman ruins, a Nabataean city cut into rock, the lowest point on land and one of the world's great deserts into a country you can cross in a day's drive. Seeing it independently means juggling drivers, entry tickets, seasonal canyon openings and a desert camp; here those pieces are arranged, and your Soca Islands Host keeps the days flowing.
It suits active travelers who are happy to get wet in a canyon and sleep under desert skies, and who want food and conversation as much as monuments. Jordanian hospitality is famous, and the shared meals, the cooking class and the evenings at camp let you feel it first-hand.

Group itinerary
Amman mixes old and new at every turn, with hillside neighborhoods of traditional souks alongside independent shops and busy cafés.
Once you've checked in, meet the group over a mezze-style welcome dinner, a table covered in small plates that makes for an easy introduction to Jordanian food and drink.
Your morning covers two of Amman's landmarks: the Citadel on its hilltop, with the Temple of Hercules and the Umayyad Palace, and the Roman Theater below. Next you'll roll up your sleeves for a hands-on class in Arabic home cooking with a local guide.
By afternoon you're down at the Dead Sea, more than 400 meters below sea level, where the water holds you up with no effort at all. Dinner is with the group back at the hotel.
Pack for getting wet. Wadi Mujib is a deep canyon carved by water, and you'll hike between high shaded walls, through shallow streams and over rocks, with waterfalls to discover.
After lunch, drive on to Petra and spend the evening as you like, on your own or over dinner with the group.
Please note: Wadi Mujib is open seasonally; when it's closed, an alternative canyon experience may be arranged.
Petra, UNESCO-listed and carved into rose-colored sandstone by the Nabataeans, takes a full day. You'll start with the story of the city as you walk the Siq to the Treasury, then stop for a lunch with local flavor.
The afternoon is for exploring on your own, following trails past royal tombs and quieter corners. After dark, return for the light and music show, when the Siq and the Treasury glow in a completely different way.
Drive south to Wadi Rum, a desert of red dunes and towering sandstone. After lunch with a view, climb into a jeep to explore the valley's sand and cliffs.
You'll finish at a desert camp, in time to watch the sunset turn the rock red and the sky fill with stars.
Early risers can take an optional sunrise camel ride. Then it's back to Amman for a free afternoon of shopping, wandering or rest.
In the evening, the group gathers for a last dinner together.
Have one more breakfast with the group, then head to the airport when your flight calls.
