Portugal rewards travelers who go a little deeper, and this week is built around doing, tasting and relaxing rather than rushing from sight to sight. It starts among Lisbon's hills, trams and tiled facades and ends on the golden cliffs of the Algarve.
You begin with three nights in Lisbon: a hands-on azulejo tile workshop, an evening food tour with local wine, and a day trip to Sintra's Quinta da Regaleira, with its spiral initiation well, grottoes and hidden tunnels. The evenings leave room for fado in Alfama or a drink above the rooftops.
Heading south, a winery lunch among the vines breaks up the drive before three nights in Lagos. There's a full free day for beaches, sea caves and the Ponta da Piedade cliffs, a cooking class with the group, and a final day on the water before the farewell dinner.
It's a relaxed mix of city energy and coastal downtime, shared with a small group of fellow travelers who are easy to get along with.
Why This Journey
Lisbon and the Algarve are often visited as two separate holidays. This route links them with a day through wine country, so you see how the country changes from the capital's Moorish lanes and seafaring history to the fishing towns and Atlantic cliffs of the south.
The hands-on moments are what make it stick: painting a tile you take home, cooking Portuguese dishes with the group, and eating where locals eat on the food tour. It suits travelers who like culture with plenty of time for the beach, and solo travelers who want company over dinner without a packed schedule.
Where You'll Stay

Group itinerary
Land at Lisbon Airport (LIS), where your transfer takes you into the city. After checking in, head out and get lost among Lisbon's pastel buildings, rattling trams and steep, tiled lanes, no plan required.
Tonight the group meets over a welcome dinner, the first of several good meals together and a chance to swap travel stories with the people you'll spend the week with.
Portugal's blue-and-white azulejo tiles cover churches, stations and whole house fronts in Lisbon, and today you learn how they're made in a hands-on workshop, painting a tile of your own.
After dark, a guide leads you on a food tour through the city, from seafood to the famous custard pastries, with Portuguese wine and the stories behind each bite.
Just outside Lisbon, Sintra's wooded hills hide palaces, gardens and romantic follies. You'll explore Quinta da Regaleira, with its underground passages, grottoes and the deep spiral initiation well, then have time to wander the town's lanes.
Back in Lisbon the evening is free. Fado, Portugal's soulful traditional music, is a fine way to spend it, in one of the small houses of Alfama or Bairro Alto.
Say goodbye to Lisbon and head for the Algarve. Halfway, a countryside winery hosts the group for lunch and a tasting among the vines.
You reach Lagos in the afternoon. Settle in, then join the group for a first look around the old town and a drink or two.
A free day in Lagos. Laze on the beach, paddle a kayak into the sea caves, walk the clifftop paths at Ponta da Piedade or explore the old town's whitewashed streets.
Later, everyone reunites for a cooking class to make traditional Portuguese dishes. Afterward, the night is yours.
Your last full day is spent on the water, cruising beneath towering ochre cliffs and into sea caves with local wine in hand.
In the evening, the group gathers for a farewell dinner, and those with energy left can see what Lagos is like after dark.
Enjoy a last Portuguese breakfast before your transfer to Faro Airport (FAO) for your flight home.
Some goodbyes may turn into plans for your next trip together.
