Trinidad Carnival takes over Port of Spain on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, and it's widely regarded as the biggest street parade in the Caribbean. Its roots lie with enslaved West and Central Africans, whose calypso grew out of hardship; today soca drives the season, alongside steel pan, stick-fighting, limbo and calypso competitions. People say that if Trinidad isn't celebrating Carnival, it's preparing for it.
Feting starts as early as Boxing Day, but the busiest stretch is Carnival week, from Wednesday to Sunday, when the island's best-known parties run back to back. This trip is built around that week: early-morning and all-inclusive fetes, a J'ouvert paint party, a cultural workshop and a beach day at Maracas, leading into J'ouvert and two days on the road.
You'll play mas in Monday wear on Carnival Monday and in full costume on Carnival Tuesday. Fete tickets, costume coordination and pickup, individual costume photography, group transport and airport transfers are arranged for you, and daily breakfast is included.
After Carnival many people head to Tobago to recover on the beach. Flights and ferries for the days after Carnival sell out early, so if you'd like to add Tobago, speak to our Customer Experience team well ahead.
Why This Journey
Trinidad is where Caribbean carnival as most people know it began, and Carnival week here is intense: dawn fetes, late nights and two full days on the road. Going with a small Soca Islands group means the hard parts are taken care of, from fete tickets that sell out to costume pickup and getting across town at 4 am, and you have a crew to share it with from the first morning.
The cultural workshop, where you'll try stilt-walking, fire-breathing and steelpan, gives you a feel for the traditions behind the party. It suits first-timers who want to experience Carnival properly, returning masqueraders who'd rather not organize it all again, and solo travelers looking for a group to celebrate with.

| Travel insurance (required), estimate | about $180 – $450 |

Many fetes on this trip are food- and drink-inclusive, which keeps the meals line low. Insurance cost depends on your age, where you live and your cover; most comprehensive policies cost roughly 4–10% of the insured trip cost.

Group itinerary
Arrive at Piarco International Airport (POS) and transfer to your accommodation in Port of Spain. The rest of the day is yours, but get some rest: the first fete starts before dawn tomorrow.
Carnival week starts at 5 am with AM Beach, an all-inclusive fete and the first chance to meet your fellow Soca Islanders. After a break to recharge, the group heads out again for Tribe Ignite.
Today's cultural workshop is a hands-on look at Carnival traditions: you'll try stilt-walking, learn to breathe fire and play the steelpan. In the evening the group goes to Phuket, an all-inclusive fete with food and drinks.
Very early on Carnival Saturday it's AM Bush, a J'ouvert-themed paint party. In the evening comes Soca Brainwash, a food and drink inclusive soca festival.
The last fete on the itinerary is another early-morning, food and drink inclusive party, Sunny Side Up. Later the group drives over the Northern Range to Maracas Beach to recharge, try Trinidad's famous bake and shark, and take part in a beach-themed photoshoot.
Expect to be on the road all day. J'ouvert celebrations begin from 4 am, and then it's the first day of the two-day Carnival street parade. Monday wear is bought separately, or you're free to wear whatever you like.
Carnival Tuesday is the big one. Put on your full costume of feathers, beads and sequins and cross the stage with your band through the streets of Port of Spain. It's the last day of the celebrations, and the city gives it everything.
Depending on your departure time, there may be a few hours for last-minute shopping. Then say goodbye to the island and your new friends, and transfer to the airport for your flight home.
